FiiO has launched the EA13, a full-size vacuum tube amplifier three years in the making, built to combine the appeal of pure valve amplification with a distinctly modern design. The FiiO EA13 brings together six imported tubes, pure Class A push-pull circuitry and custom output transformers in a package meant to introduce tube sound to a new generation of hi-fi listeners. It’s a different side of FiiO to the one we saw with the Snowsky FH3 LUMI earlier this year, aimed squarely at the amplifier end of the system rather than portable listening.
From the warm glow of its tubes to the sweep of its dual mechanical VU meters, the FiiO EA13 is built around the classic hi-fi experience: light, motion and sound working together to fill a room with the natural richness associated with vintage valve designs, but wrapped in a chassis that would look equally at home in a contemporary listening room.
Six tubes, drawn from a golden-era circuit
Amplification in the FiiO EA13 is handled by two SYLVANIA NOS PCF80 preamp tubes from one of America’s premier tube manufacturers, chosen for a refined, transparent presentation and an open, natural soundstage. Four JJ ELECTRONIC EL34 power tubes complete the six-tube configuration, drawing on celebrated circuits from 1950s tube amplifiers.
The FiiO EA13 combines pentode mode with pure Class A push-pull operation, a configuration designed to minimise distortion while delivering sound that stays clear but rich enough to carry the key movements in a piece of music, whatever the genre. Output reaches up to 28W + 28W at 8 ohms, enough to drive most bookshelf speakers and floorstanding designs while preserving both fine detail and the scale of a performance.
A custom transformer and a modern chassis
At the heart of the FiiO EA13’s performance sits a custom high-bandwidth, low-noise output transformer, built to suppress vibration while improving electromagnetic shielding, moisture protection, stability and longevity. The result, according to FiiO, is tighter and weightier bass, refined treble and faithful handling of dynamic shifts.
The FiiO EA13 pairs that classic acoustic engineering with a modern chassis: a thickened aviation-grade aluminium front panel, CNC machined and sandblasted for a refined tactile finish that also helps suppress resonance. The tubes sit recessed beneath an integrated protective cover for a sleek appearance, while side grille ventilation and vibration-damping feet round out the design. A high-precision analogue volume potentiometer offers 40 levels of fine adjustment, with precision-matched resistors at every increment to keep left and right channels balanced. Adjustable RGB lighting around the control knobs can be coordinated with the tubes’ natural amber glow, letting listeners personalise the look of the amplifier.
Connectivity and specifications
The FiiO EA13 offers four RCA inputs for digital streamers, turntables (with a separate phono stage), CD players, DACs and other sources. Gold-plated 4-ohm and 8-ohm speaker binding posts support loudspeakers of differing impedances, while a 6.35mm single-ended headphone output is voiced to match the sound signature of the speaker outputs, with a recommended headphone impedance of 16 to 300 ohms.
Measuring approximately 430 x 339 x 145mm and weighing around 17.7kg, the FiiO EA13 is available in black or silver. Speaker output reaches up to 28W + 28W at 4 ohms and 8 ohms (THD+N under 5%), with a frequency response of 20Hz-60kHz and a dynamic range of at least 97dB, A-weighted.
