Audi is the first car brand to offer the Audi Spotify app as Spotify’s fully native in-car application. Developed together with Cariad and Spotify for Android Automotive OS, it runs directly in the Audi MMI without a connected smartphone, and adds music videos, real-time lyrics and Spotify Jam to the car. The app has been available since 21 October 2026 in 47 markets.
Audi Spotify app: no phone needed
Most cars play Spotify by mirroring a phone through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, or through a simplified integration. The new Audi Spotify app is different: it is a full native app, optimised for Android Automotive OS and running directly on the MMI infotainment system. You download it free of charge from the Audi Application Store and sign in with your Spotify account. From then on, your music streams straight from the car.
At launch, the app is available exclusively through the Audi Application Store. It rolls out across 47 Audi markets in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Music videos, lyrics and Spotify Jam
The native integration brings features that were not available in the car before. When parked, you can watch music videos and follow real-time lyrics on the central MMI display, and browse the full Spotify catalogue with all features. Spotify DJ, the AI-powered host, is also on board.
Spotify Jam turns the car into a shared listening space. Passengers join a session by scanning a QR code with their phone and can add their own songs to the shared queue. On a family trip or a drive with friends, that ends the discussion about who controls the music. And because the Audi Spotify app runs on the car itself, the music keeps playing even when the driver’s phone battery runs low.
Safe while driving
Audi has adapted the app for use on the road. While driving, sign-in and settings are not available, music videos and lyrics are hidden on the central display, and related controls disappear from the Now Playing view. Voice control keeps working, including “Hey Audi” and Spotify DJ. In cars with a front passenger display, the passenger can keep using the supported features while the car is moving.

Which Audi models get the app
The Audi Spotify app works on cars built on the PPE and PPC architectures. That includes the Audi A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron, the A5, Q5 and A6 from model year 2026, and the Q7 and Q9 from their respective market launches. For music lovers who listen in the car, the Audi Spotify app offers a direct, phone-free connection to Spotify, which is a practical step forward. Spotify itself has also been busy lately; read our news on Spotify’s QR code verification for Family plans.
