The Steinway & Sons Model O floorstanding loudspeaker

Steinway Lyngdorf has introduced a new generation of the Steinway & Sons Model O, the entry model in its floorstanding loudspeaker range. The Steinway Lyngdorf Model O keeps the same space-conscious footprint as the original 2018 design, but now packs a larger cabinet, a second midrange driver and striking new gold detailing, all aimed at delivering a more room-filling sound from a slender, wall-hugging two-way loudspeaker.

What’s new on the Steinway Lyngdorf Model O

The Steinway Lyngdorf Model O takes up minimal floor space yet is built to deliver the full-bodied, detailed sound every Steinway & Sons loudspeaker is known for. Its bass performance comes from a concealed passive radiator on the rear of the cabinet, which takes advantage of the boundary-woofer concept: rather than fighting the room, the speaker is specifically designed and tuned to be placed close to the wall behind it, where it benefits from the room’s own acoustics. In the higher frequencies, Steinway Lyngdorf’s Air Motion Transformer tweeter handles the finer musical details.

Compared with the original Model O, launched in 2018, the new generation adds a second front-mounted midrange-bass driver, an 80% larger internal cabinet volume and a 50% larger passive bass radiator. Together, Steinway Lyngdorf says, these changes bring improved bass performance, more dynamic range and a more room-filling sound.

Gold detailing and Steinway craftsmanship

The new Steinway Lyngdorf Model O carries the same design language and craftsmanship as the rest of the Steinway & Sons range. A gold-coated tweeter eye, available with a matte or polished finish, and high-quality lacquer give the speaker its visual presence, while 26 black strings on the front baffle are carefully hand-aligned so they don’t resonate or interfere with the sound. New optional gold-coated rings around the two front-mounted midrange drivers further emphasize the design. Every Model O loudspeaker is assembled and finished by hand in Skive, Denmark, and can be further customized with individual lacquers and wood veneers.

Peter Keller-Larsen, CCO at Steinway Lyngdorf, explains why the Steinway Lyngdorf Model O exists: “The Model O is a very important part of the Steinway lineup. If we begin with the D’s and the B’s, they have a rather large footprint, and that’s not for everybody. That’s why we have the Model O: you can actually get the magic Steinway sound, even in smaller rooms.”

Part of the Integrated System Approach

Like every Steinway & Sons loudspeaker, the Steinway Lyngdorf Model O is designed as part of the company’s Integrated System Approach, pairing the speaker with Steinway & Sons stereo or surround processors and digital amplifiers. Steinway Lyngdorf’s RoomPerfect technology then calibrates the whole system to the room’s acoustics, for the best sound at any listening position. Model O owners connect to a Steinway & Sons A1 amplifier (2 x 400 watt) via a speakON connector built into the base plate.

Pricing and availability

The new Steinway Lyngdorf Model O will be available from November 2026. Steinway Lyngdorf has not announced a fixed speaker-only price: system prices depend on the choice of Steinway & Sons stereo or surround processor and amplifiers, and vary by country. More information is available through Steinway Lyngdorf, and readers curious about the matching amplifier platform can find our earlier coverage of the award-winning Lyngdorf TDAI-2210.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
