Audioengine has introduced the A2+ Gen 3 Home Music System, the newest generation of one of the veteran-owned company’s most recognizable products. The A2+ Gen 3 keeps the compact desktop footprint that made the original A2+ a longtime favorite, while adding the newly released Qualcomm aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec, Bluetooth 5.3 and an industry-leading wireless range of up to 100 feet.
What’s New on the A2+ Gen 3
“For years, the A2+ has been the product people recommend when someone asks how to get the highest-quality sound from a small desktop setup,” said Nate Rodriguez, President and CEO of Audioengine. “The A2+ Gen 3 keeps the size and simplicity people already know and love, but gives it broader Bluetooth support, and better USB compatibility.”
The A2+ Gen 3 supports aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and LC3, with Bluetooth audio handled by an internal Qualcomm QCC3040 receiver capable of up to 24-bit input through compatible aptX codecs. Wired listeners get USB-C, RCA and 3.5mm inputs alongside an RCA output for adding a subwoofer, with USB sample rates up to 96kHz through a PCM5100A DAC chip.
Built for Everyday Listening
“Technology changes, but the reason people buy an A2+ really hasn’t,” Rodriguez said. “They want their music to sound great without turning listening into a project. That continues to be the idea behind this product.” The A2+ Gen 3 is built around 2.75-inch aramid fiber woofers and 0.75-inch silk dome tweeters, driven by Class D amplification, with a 65Hz–22kHz frequency response and less than 0.05% THD+N.
Every A2+ Gen 3 cabinet is hand-built and finished in one of five launch colors: Matte Black, Matte Green, Hi-Gloss Limoncello Yellow, Hi-Gloss Piano White and Hi-Gloss Red. Like other members of the Audioengine lineup, including the brand’s HD6 Home Music System, the A2+ Gen 3 is designed without apps, accounts or complicated setup.
