Shanling has introduced the Shanling CD50, a compact desktop CD player that opens the brand’s new “50 Line” of space-saving hi-fi components. Priced at €299 and measuring just 188 x 205 x 53mm, the Shanling CD50 pairs a tray-loading CD drive with a built-in DAC and a genuinely capable headphone amplifier, aimed squarely at desktop setups and smaller stereo systems where a full-size CD player won’t fit.
The Shanling CD50: A Full CD Player Built for the Desktop
Rather than shrinking an existing model, Shanling designed the CD50 from the ground up as the first entry in its new 50 Line, a range built around the idea that classic hi-fi functionality doesn’t need a full-size chassis. The Shanling CD50 weighs roughly 1.6kg and combines an aluminum chassis with a glass front panel, offered in black or silver. Despite the small footprint, Shanling stuck with a conventional tray-loading mechanism built around its HD850 laser rather than a top-loading design, so CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs load and eject the same way they would on a standard component.

Cirrus Logic DAC and a Genuine Headphone Amp on Board
Inside, the Shanling CD50 relies on a Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chip to handle conversion, feeding a fixed or variable RCA output rated at 2.6Vrms with a claimed dynamic range of 124dB and THD+N of 0.002%. What sets the Shanling CD50 apart from a bare-bones transport is its onboard headphone amplifier, built around dual SGM8262 chips and tuned with Rubycon capacitors. The 3.5mm output delivers 210mW into 32 ohms, while the balanced 4.4mm Pentaconn jack pushes that up to 830mW into 32 ohms with a dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio both rated at 126dB, enough headroom to drive most desktop headphones directly from the disc.

Flexible Outputs for Any System
The Shanling CD50’s RCA output can be switched between a fixed line-out for feeding an amplifier and a variable pre-out for driving a power amp or active speakers directly, giving it more flexibility than a typical CD transport. For listeners who’d rather route conversion through an external DAC, coaxial S/PDIF and optical TOSLINK digital outputs are both included. A 2.2-inch display and physical front-panel controls handle everyday use, backed by an infrared remote, and Shanling includes menu options for gain, digital filters and UI themes. Unlike Shanling’s more streaming-focused releases, such as the Shanling Q2, the CD50 deliberately sticks to CD-only playback with no additional digital inputs.

Shanling CD50 Pricing and Availability
The Shanling CD50 is priced at €299 and is being rolled out through Shanling’s regional distributors, with black and silver finishes both confirmed; a firm release date for individual markets has not yet been announced. Full details are available directly from Shanling.
