Buchardt Audio has officially released the Buchardt E50-S, a sensitivity-focused sibling to the Danish direct-to-consumer brand’s acclaimed E50 standmount loudspeaker. Where the original E50 was tuned as an uncompromising, amplifier-hungry statement piece, the Buchardt E50-S takes a deliberately different path: less outright bass, more midrange presence, and an easier match for lower-powered amplification.
The Buchardt E50-S: A Different Take, Not an Upgrade
Buchardt is careful to frame the E50-S as a variation rather than a replacement. The “S” stands for sensitivity, and the new model is a little larger than the standard E50, with width increased by 1cm to accommodate a bigger woofer. According to Buchardt, the E50-S trades some of the E50’s deep bass extension for a more forward, holographic midrange that pulls vocals closer to the listener, while keeping the tweeter’s praised airy, detailed treble intact. The company says the E50-S is more energetic and snappy in its presentation, whereas the standard E50 remains the more relaxed, laid-back-sounding of the pair.

Custom Satori Woofer and a Resistor-Free Crossover
At the heart of the Buchardt E50-S is a custom-made 7.5-inch Satori woofer using Oxeon AB’s TeXtreme cone material, paired with a modified Scan-Speak tweeter. Buchardt notes that the harder cone material required a more advanced, costlier crossover than the single-component design used on the standard E50, since a simple first-order network could not control the extra cone breakup. The cabinet itself is built from solid European oak with finger-jointed corners, internal bracing and a mix of Basotect foam, natural wool and polyester damping. Buchardt has deliberately not published measurements for the E50-S, arguing that graphs would colour expectations before anyone hears the speaker for themselves.

Built for Smaller Rooms and Gentler Amplifiers
Buchardt positions the E50-S as the speaker to choose over the standard E50 for smaller rooms, positions closer to a rear wall, or systems built around amplifiers as modest as 15 watts. The regular E50 remains the more frequency-linear, power-hungry design of the two, and Buchardt is explicit that neither model is objectively “better” than the other; the choice comes down to room, amplification and personal taste for a more bass-forward or midrange-forward sound. Every E50-S cabinet is built by hand in Buchardt’s own Danish production facility and comes with a 10-year warranty, along with Argento Audio five-way binding posts and a brass locking handle.
Pricing and Availability
The Buchardt E50-S is priced at €4,100 per pair, with a limited pre-order discount of €200 off the regular €4,300 price for the first 50 orders or until 15 September, whichever comes first. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October. The speaker is available in Rounded Natural Oak, Rounded Smoked Oak and Rounded Charcoal finishes directly through buchardtaudio.com, with free worldwide shipping and import costs included.
