Italian loudspeaker specialist Albedo Audio has introduced the Achema, a slim 2.5-way floorstanding tower positioned as the brand’s new entry-level model. Drawing on proven technologies from flagship designs like the Agadia and Acclara, the Achema aims to democratize ultra-high-performance audio without compromising on detail, dynamics, or transparency.
At the core of the Achema is Albedo’s signature transmission line loading system, enhanced by the Helmholine filtered resonator design. This configuration, paired with side-mounted ports, stabilizes airflow to minimize turbulence and extend bass response while simplifying room placement. The cabinet, constructed from sturdy wooden panels up to 30 mm thick in critical areas, incorporates heavy damping steel plates for vibration control. A separate compartment isolates the crossover from the acoustic loading chamber, reducing microphonic interference.
The driver complement features high-quality Accuton ceramic units: a 1-inch tweeter, a 6-inch midrange, and a 7-inch woofer handling both low frequencies and partial midrange duties in the 2.5-way topology. This arrangement increases radiating surface area for greater sound pressure, while maintaining the energy and dynamics of a traditional three-way system. The result is a nominal impedance of 11 ohmsโhigher than the typical 8 ohmsโmaking the Achema an easy load for amplifiers, including entry-level models.
Albedo’s redesigned crossover employs first- and second-order filters built exclusively with Mundorf components. Optimized board layout minimizes solder joints, shortens copper tracks, and reduces magnetic field interactions, yielding a 1 dB sensitivity gain over conventional designs. Sensitivity is rated at 85 dB (2.83V/1m), with frequency response spanning 44 Hz to 22 kHz.
Measuring 23.2 x 39 x 105 cm (9.13 x 15.35 x 41.34 inches) and weighing 38 kg (84 lb) per speaker, the Achema is available in glossy lacquered finishes: Piano Black, Grey Pastel, and Pearl Ruby Red.
The Achema reflects our commitment to mechanical stability and acoustic refinement in a more accessible package, notes Albedo Audio. It delivers the musical realism and focus of our higher-end models to a broader audience.
