The Klipsch La Scala® AL6 is a modern marvel that encapsulates the classic Klipschorn® magic in a more compact yet powerful design. First introduced in 1963, the La Scala was initially presented to Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Winthrop Rockefeller, who famously utilized it during his political campaign from a train car. This legendary loudspeaker has undergone a contemporary transformation, providing updated sound quality and aesthetics while remaining true to the foundational principles established by Paul W. Klipsch over 60 years ago.
Contemporary Innovations
The AL6 is equipped with an optional Heritage Active Crossover, specifically tuned for La Scala speakers, enhancing the auditory experience with advanced technology derived from the acclaimed Klipsch Jubilee floorstanding speakers. This Heritage Active DSP (Digital Signal Processing) optimizes time and phase alignment while improving frequency response and EQ balance, ensuring a flat and color-free sound profile.
To accommodate the Heritage Active Crossover, the I/O panel has been revamped. It now features both passive and active inputs along with a passive output, providing users with greater customization options. Additionally, the panel has been relocated to the back of the speaker, resulting in a cleaner aesthetic from virtually any viewing angle.
Exceptional Efficiency and Performance
La Scala’s three-way, horn-loaded system is designed for remarkable efficiency, far surpassing that of standard loudspeakers. In the AL6 model, each driver is precisely paired with a measured horn optimized for one of three distinct pass-bands. This meticulous engineering enables the speaker to produce greater acoustic power with lower wattage, delivering crystal-clear sound with minimal distortion across the entire frequency spectrum.
The AL6 features a K-771 compression driver that incorporates a patented extended phase plug, which minimizes cancellations and equalizes wavelengths for superior sound dispersion. This results in enhanced coverage and clarity, setting a new benchmark for loudspeaker performance.
Enhanced Mid-Range and Bass Response
A notable upgrade in the AL6 model is the addition of a cinema-grade K1133 compression driver, which boasts an extra inch in size compared to previous AL5 models. Handcrafted in Hope, Arkansas, this larger compression area amplifies sound pressure at the horn’s throat, allowing for a more voluminous audio output.
Furthermore, the AL6 employs the Tractrix® design, featuring a new K-406M patented mid-range horn with a shorter, 2-inch throat. This innovation delivers unparalleled presence and precision, with Mumps technology enhancing coverage and maintaining frequency response from the horn’s edge.
The all-new, patented horn-loaded, vented system merges the efficiency characteristics of both ported and horn-loaded cabinets, resulting in richer, more robust bass than ever before.
