Shokz has refreshed its open-ear lineup with the Shokz OpenFit Air 2, a lighter, more powerful follow-up to the original OpenFit Air. The new true wireless earbuds keep the brand’s signature open-ear design intact while trimming weight, adding depth to the sound and rounding out the everyday features that made the first generation a hit with commuters and gym-goers. Shokz says the goal was straightforward: build an earbud light enough to forget you are wearing it, without asking listeners to give up bass, battery life or a secure fit. The launch also follows Shokz’s ring-style OpenDots 2, further rounding out a catalog built entirely around staying connected to the outside world while listening.

The Shokz OpenFit Air 2 Gets a Lighter Build for All-Day Comfort

At just 7.2 grams per earbud, the Shokz OpenFit Air 2 is noticeably lighter than its predecessor, without giving up stability during runs, gym sessions or long commutes. Shokz redesigned the ergonomic ear hooks so they flex naturally around a wider range of ear shapes, keeping the earbuds secure through daily activity and intense workouts alike. A slimmer earbud body and an optimized hook reduce pressure points around the ear, while soft, skin-friendly materials keep long listening sessions comfortable. Shokz says the open-ear design also lets wearers enjoy a natural, all-day listening experience without the fatigue that in-ear tips can cause. The charging case has been reworked too: it is more compact and lighter than the previous generation, so the whole set slips easily into a pocket, jacket or bag.

Richer Open-Ear Sound With More Depth

Despite its compact size, the Shokz OpenFit Air 2 delivers a fuller, more dynamic listening experience than before. Shokz’s patented Bassphere driver produces punchier low end and a wider soundstage, while the new OpenBass 2.0 technology adds extra depth and detail to music, podcasts and calls. The companion Shokz App offers four preset EQ modes — Standard, Vocal, Bass and Private Mode — plus two fully customizable sound profiles for listeners who want to fine-tune their own signature. As with every open-ear model from Shokz, DirectPitch technology directs sound precisely into the ear canal while minimizing leakage, so private listening no longer means losing touch with your surroundings.

Built for Everyday Use

The Shokz OpenFit Air 2 pairs its lighter build with practical upgrades for daily life. Redesigned pressure-sensitive buttons respond more precisely and are less prone to accidental taps from sweat, rain or hair, making it easier to control playback, take calls or trigger a voice assistant on the move. A dual-microphone system paired with AI noise reduction keeps voices clear on calls, even in a busy café or beside a noisy street. Battery life reaches up to 8 hours per charge and 36 hours total with the case, and a 10-minute quick charge adds up to 3 hours of listening time. Multipoint pairing lets the earbuds switch between two devices at once, while Bluetooth 6.1, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair keep connections fast and stable across Android, iOS and Windows devices. An IP55 rating adds resistance to sweat and rain, rounding out a design built for both daily commutes and sweaty workouts.

The Shokz OpenFit Air 2 is available now in black, white and Ice Blue for €139.00, positioning it alongside the original OpenFit Air as an everyday open-ear option rather than a premium flagship.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
