Moondrop EVO takes a different route to wireless listening than a typical true wireless earbud: instead of building a self-contained earpiece, Moondrop EVO is a true wireless Bluetooth ear-hook that plugs into any IEM with a standard 0.78mm 2-pin connector, turning a favourite wired in-ear monitor into a wireless one without touching the earphone itself. It follows the brand’s existing Illustrious earbuds as Moondrop’s latest push into higher-end wireless listening.
Moondrop EVO Packs a Hardware DAC Into Each Ear-hook
Rather than leaning on a phone’s Bluetooth chip to handle decoding, each Moondrop EVO ear-hook has its own independent ES9318 DAC/amp chip, so the left and right channels are converted and amplified separately instead of sharing one shared decoding path. Moondrop quotes total harmonic distortion as low as 0.002% and a dynamic range above 118dB for Moondrop EVO, specs the brand says come from running the signal through dedicated hardware rather than a generic Bluetooth SoC’s built-in codec.

Built to Work With Bigger, Custom-Shaped IEMs
Moondrop EVO supports aptX Adaptive for low-delay, high-quality streaming alongside aptX HD, aptX, aptX TWS+, AAC and SBC, over Bluetooth 5.2. The case flips the usual true wireless layout: charging pins sit on the same side as the earphone shell rather than inside a tight earbud-shaped slot, which Moondrop says lets the case close around large high-end or custom in-ear monitors that would never fit a standard charging case. Touch controls on each ear-hook handle playback and calls, with dual microphones and Moondrop’s ENC noise cancellation for voice clarity, and the ear-hooks reconnect automatically whether used as a mono or binaural pair. Moondrop quotes roughly three times the battery capacity of a typical wireless ear-hook, a full charge in about two hours, and a Bluetooth range of around 15 metres in open environments.
The approach positions Moondrop EVO as an alternative to buying an all-new true wireless IEM: owners of a well-loved wired monitor get Bluetooth convenience without giving up the tuning, fit or resale value of the earphone they already know, while still gaining a dedicated DAC/amp stage per channel rather than whatever codec support happens to be built into their phone. It is a narrower pitch than a conventional TWS earbud, aimed squarely at listeners who already have a 2-pin IEM they are not willing to retire.
Pricing and availability
Moondrop has not listed a price for Moondrop EVO on its own site; full specifications are listed on Moondrop’s official EVO product page, and the ear-hook is sold through Moondrop’s usual retail partners, including its storefronts on AliExpress and Amazon, alongside Moondrop’s existing IEM and TWS lineup.
