FiiO has announced two exciting new additions to its desktop audio lineup: the DARKSIDE PRO low-noise regulated linear power supply and the K13 R2R desktop DAC and headphone amplifier.
Designed to work seamlessly either on their own or paired together, these components deliver genuine high-end performance at remarkably approachable prices. Together, they form a compelling upgrade path for enthusiasts looking to elevate their desktop hi-fi setups and squeeze even more performance from demanding headphones such as the FiiO FT7.
FiiO DARKSIDE PRO
The DARKSIDE PRO builds directly on the success of FiiO’s earlier PL50, with a clear mission: to deliver ultra-stable, ultra-quiet power to sensitive audio components including DACs, headphone amplifiers, and network streamers. By replacing generic switching wall adapters with a meticulously engineered linear power supply, the DARKSIDE PRO dramatically reduces electrical noise and interference that can otherwise cloud the audio signal.
At its heart sits an audiophile-grade 75W toroidal transformer, paired with a fully discrete voltage regulation circuit and dual-MOSFET parallel current amplification. This combination ensures exceptionally stable power delivery with minimal ripple, allowing connected devices to perform at their absolute best.
Users can select between 12V or 15V output, with up to 3A of current available plenty of headroom for a wide range of desktop gear. The generous current reserve means even the most dynamic musical passages are handled without strain, preserving bass impact, clarity, and overall musical energy across the frequency range.
Additional refinements include precision regulation, ultra-low residual ripple, relay-controlled voltage switching, and premium capacitors (ELNA, Rubycon, WIMA), all housed in a robust chassis built for consistent performance during long listening sessions. The result is a noticeably “pitch-black” noise floor that lets music emerge with greater purity and realism.
FiiO K13 R2R
Complementing the DARKSIDE PRO is the K13 R2R, FiiO’s latest desktop DAC/headphone amplifier built around a true resistor-ladder architecture. Instead of conventional delta-sigma chips, the K13 employs a fully differential 24-bit R2R DAC constructed from precision resistor arrays. This design is prized for its natural, organic, and analogue-like presentation the kind of sound often associated with classic high-end systems.
The entire audio chain digital-to-analogue conversion, volume control, and amplification stays fully balanced from input to output. This architecture enhances interference rejection, lowers distortion, and maintains excellent dynamic range with superb detail retrieval.
On the amplification side, the K13 R2R is no lightweight: balanced output delivers up to 2400mW + 2400mW into a 32Ω load. That’s more than enough power to comfortably drive everything from ultra-sensitive IEMs to power-hungry planar magnetic headphones.
Connectivity is comprehensive. Digital inputs include USB, optical, coaxial, and I²S, while analogue outputs are offered in both balanced and single-ended flavours. Wireless convenience comes via Bluetooth 5.4 with LDAC support for high-resolution streaming straight from your phone or tablet. A clear custom LCD display keeps you informed with real-time details such as sampling rate, volume level, and output mode.
For fine-tuning, the K13 R2R features a 10-band parametric EQ that can be adjusted via the FiiO Control app or through a web browser on your desktop perfect for tailoring the sound to different headphones or musical genres.
Perfect Partners for Desktop Excellence
When used together, the DARKSIDE PRO and K13 R2R create a synergistic upgrade. The linear power supply provides the clean, stable foundation the R2R DAC/amp needs to truly shine, resulting in lower noise, tighter bass, a more expansive soundstage, and greater overall musical engagement.
Both products reflect FiiO’s ongoing commitment to bringing genuine high-end audio performance within reach of everyday enthusiasts. The DARKSIDE PRO is expected to retail around $159.99 / £139.99 / €159.99 (available from April), while the K13 R2R is priced at approximately $319.99 / £279.99 / €319.99 and is already shipping in black or silver finishes.
