Neumann.Berlin has released firmware version 2.0 for its MT 48 audio interface, a free update that pushes the compact converter-and-monitoring hub further into territory once reserved for larger consoles and outboard racks. The update, announced in Berlin on June 15th, 2026, focuses on three areas: onboard plugin processing, expanded broadcast tools, and a redesigned control interface.
Onboard DSP Plugins Arrive on the MT 48
The headline feature is onboard DSP plugin support, bringing the Eventide Blackhole Reverb and Merging+Deesser to the MT 48 after they were previously exclusive to the Merging Anubis platform. Because both plugins run on the same DSP engine that powers Anubis, engineers get ultra-low-latency processing without needing a separate computer or outboard unit in the signal chain.
Blackhole is built for expansive, otherworldly reverb tails suited to tracks that need scale rather than realism, while the Deesser is a precise, transparent tool for taming vocal sibilance during tracking or mixing. Both plugins are available for purchase through Neumann’s webstore at $209 each.
Expanded Dante Networking for Scalable Systems
Firmware 2.0 also broadens networking flexibility. The MT 48, along with the Merging Anubis and Hapi Mk III, now supports 8×8, 16×16, 32×32, and 64×64 Dante Ready plans. The added flexibility lets users align their investment with current needs while retaining room to expand as projects grow, making the MT 48 suitable for everything from compact project studios to networked broadcast facilities and multi-room production environments.
Broadcast Tools: AMBEO Encoding and LAWO Integration
Broadcast-focused features received significant attention in this release. The MT 48 now supports the LAWO HOME Management Platform, broadening the device’s application in professional media environments. It also gains support for the AMBEO 2-Channel Live Broadcast Encoder, which lets broadcasters encode live immersive content into a 2-channel mix that listeners can enjoy at home on stereo speakers while preserving the immersive feel of the original mix, available through the AMBEO programme.
Redesigned Advanced Pages Interface and Workflow Additions
The update introduces a redesigned Advanced Pages interface featuring updated visuals, improved navigation, and access to deeper levels of control, built to enhance usability while maintaining the precision engineers need under time pressure.
Several day-to-day workflow features round out the release. Music Mission now supports N-1 mixing, a setup familiar to broadcast engineers, alongside Talkback Dim for automatically pulling down monitor levels when talkback is active. Monitor Mission adds speaker and source grouping for quicker A/B comparisons, an L/R flip function for checking stereo imaging and phase, and custom downmix rules for adapting monitoring behavior to different formats.
Stability Improvements and Availability
Beyond new features, firmware 2.0 delivers bug fixes, performance optimizations, and enhanced USB compatibility, including support for the latest macOS systems.
Firmware 2.0 became available as a free update starting June 15th, 2026. Pricing for the Merging+Deesser and Eventide Blackhole plugins is set at €209 / £179 / $209 each, while Dante licensing pricing is handled separately through Audinate’s website.
