Maono has detailed the technology behind its new PD500W Hybrid Microphone, a dynamic microphone system built for podcasters, streamers, video creators, and interviewers who move between multiple recording setups. The PD500W launched on Kickstarter on July 3rd, 2026, with backers set to receive samples in September and full retail availability expected in October.
Addressing the Gap Between Accessible Gear and Professional Audio
According to Maono, cameras, phones, and editing software have become easier to use, but getting professional-grade audio still typically demands extra hardware, technical setup, and time in post-production. The PD500W was built around three goals: simplifying how recording gets started, protecting captured audio, and speeding up the editing process that follows.
Hybrid Connectivity for Multiple Production Environments
Traditional dynamic microphones often require an audio interface, preamp, and separate cabling to function across different setups. The PD500W is designed to sidestep that complexity by offering several connection paths in one device. It transmits over 2.4GHz wireless through an included 3.5mm receiver for camera-based recording, while a USB-C receiver connects to phones, tablets, and computers. For studio use, creators can plug in directly over USB-C or run the microphone through an XLR chain with an audio interface.
The physical design was also reworked to keep multi-device setups tidy. The signal lead runs inside the microphone’s U-shaped yoke to hide cabling, while a separated rear I/O hub groups the USB-C port, headphone jack, and XLR connector behind the mic body.
Built-In Safeguards for Irreplaceable Recordings
To protect recordings that can’t be redone, such as live interviews or unscripted conversations, the PD500W includes 32GB of internal storage and records WAV files locally at 24-bit or 32-bit float, even while simultaneously streaming audio to an external device. The microphone can also generate a -9dB safety track, giving editors a lower-level backup take if the primary signal clips during a sudden volume spike.
Maono Product Director Wilson said the goal behind these features was to reduce creators’ dependence on any single device or recording path, addressing pain points reported directly by users around setup complexity and lost footage.
AI-Powered Tools to Streamline Editing
Beyond capture, the PD500W is designed to cut down on post-production work. When paired with a camera receiver, built-in timecode is intended to simplify syncing between the microphone’s internal recording and camera footage. Through Maono’s companion app, MaonoLink, users will be able to access AI-driven transcription, translation, and summarization tools to help identify key moments and prepare interview or podcast notes. These AI features are planned to launch ahead of backer fulfillment, pending further testing, and operate separately from the microphone’s core recording functions.
Pricing and Kickstarter Availability
The PD500W is live now on Kickstarter, with super early bird pricing starting at $359 for the first 30 backers. Campaign backers are expected to receive units in September, with broader retail availability following in October.
