French hi-fi specialist Davis Acoustics has introduced the Krypton 3 V2, an updated version of its popular compact bookshelf speaker from the Krypton series. Building on nearly 40 years of expertise in driver design, this second-generation model refines the original Krypton 3 with upgraded components and improved musical performance, while maintaining the range’s signature accessibility and neutral sound signature.
The Krypton 3 V2 remains the sole compact offering in the Krypton lineup, positioned between the entry-level Ariane series and the premium Courbet models. Davis Acoustics describes it as an “ultra-compact” two-way bookshelf design that packs advanced technologies into a small enclosure. Key enhancements include a new 28mm soft-dome tweeter with a rear decompression chamber for smoother high-frequency reproduction from 4,000 Hz upward, paired with a 13cm midrange/woofer featuring the brand’s seventh-generation woven Kevlar cone—a material long cherished by Davis for its rigidity, lightness, and natural midrange presentation.
Technical specifications
The speaker employs a bass-reflex loading with a rear circular port, contributing to its easy-to-drive nature. Technical specifications highlight its user-friendly characteristics:
- Frequency response: 47 Hz – 21,000 Hz (±3 dB)
- Sensitivity: 90 dB
- Impedance: 4–8 ohms (nominal)
- Power handling: 80 W nominal / 120 W maximum
- Crossover frequency: 4,000 Hz
- Dimensions (H x W x D): 35 x 19 x 27 cm
- Weight: Approximately 8 kg per speaker (pair shipped in one carton)
Davis emphasizes the Krypton 3 V2’s neutral character and high efficiency, making it compatible with a wide range of amplifiers, from budget tube designs to modern solid-state electronics. The optimized crossover and high-quality transducers aim to deliver fatigue-free listening sessions, with particular praise for the Kevlar driver’s lifelike vocal reproduction and overall coherence.
French aesthetics
Aesthetically, the Krypton 3 V2 is available in three contemporary finishes—Classik, Nordik, and Technik—allowing seamless integration into modern living spaces. The cabinets feature refined construction for better rigidity and reduced resonances compared to the original model.
While full independent reviews of the V2 are emerging following its recent launch, the improvements address feedback from the well-received original Krypton 3, which was lauded for its consensual sound, lack of listening fatigue, and versatility in small to medium rooms (12–20 m²). The V2 elevates these qualities with superior drivers and cabinet tuning, positioning it as a compelling option in the competitive compact bookshelf segment.
Davis Acoustics continues to blend artisan craftsmanship with accessible pricing in the Krypton series, and the Krypton 3 V2 appears poised to uphold the brand’s reputation for musical, uncolored reproduction. For audiophiles seeking a compact speaker that punches above its size without demanding exotic amplification, this updated model warrants close attention.
