For audiophiles, the pursuit of pristine sound begins at the source—the power supply. KBL Sound’s Extrema Power Terminal (RPT-797) is a masterclass in power distribution, meticulously crafted to elevate high-end audio systems to new heights. Designed with no compromises, this power terminal combines premium components, advanced materials, and puristic engineering to deliver a transformative listening experience, making it a standout choice for discerning audio enthusiasts.

Uncompromising Design and Construction

The Extrema Power Terminal is a testament to KBL Sound’s dedication to quality. Its chassis is CNC-machined from a solid block of aerospace-grade aluminum, resulting in walls up to 30mm thick. This fortress-like construction provides exceptional shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), while absorbing internal and external resonances. The result is a stable, noise-free environment that ensures undisturbed electron transfer to your audio components.

At its core, the Extrema features an IEC Furutech FI-09NCFR inlet and either six Furutech FI-30NCFR Schuko outlets (European version) or three GTX-D NCF(R) sockets (US/Asia version). All conductive elements are made of pure copper treated with Furutech’s Alpha Process—deep cryogenic freezing and ring demagnetization—to enhance conductivity and eliminate residual stress. These components are further enhanced with Furutech’s Nano Crystal² Formula (NCF), a crystalline material that generates negative ions to eliminate static and converts thermal energy into infrared for superior electrical and mechanical damping.

Star-Wired Configuration for Pure Power

Unlike conventional power strips where sockets are wired in series, the Extrema employs a star-wired configuration. Ultra-pure OCC (Ohno Continuous Cast) monocrystalline copper wires, insulated with Teflon, run in parallel from the IEC inlet to each socket. This design ensures that every connected device receives direct, uncompromised power, eliminating voltage loss and maintaining consistent current flow. The 11 AWG wiring further minimizes resistance, delivering clean, dynamic power to your system.

Notably, the Extrema avoids filters or chokes, which can impede current flow. Instead, its robust shielding and strategic cable routing eliminate EMI and RFI, providing a purer power delivery than many high-end conditioners. This puristic approach results in a fluid, lively soundstage that feels more natural and refined, with enhanced definition across all frequencies.

Elevating the Listening Experience

The Extrema Power Terminal transforms the audio experience, delivering music that flows effortlessly rather than sounding like a collection of disjointed notes. Users report a sound that is more vivid, present, and detailed, with a refined tonal balance that brings recordings to life. Instruments are better isolated, and the sense of space and atmosphere in recordings is heightened, creating a more immersive and natural presentation. Skeptics may doubt the impact of a power terminal, but the Extrema’s effect is profound and undeniable once experienced.

For optimal performance, KBL Sound recommends pairing the Extrema with their high-end power cables, such as the Red Corona SRX, Himalaya SX, Himalaya PRO2, or Extrema. However, its compatibility with other premium power cables ensures versatility for any audiophile setup.

RPT-797 Wood Base: The Perfect Companion

The Extrema Power Terminal is complemented by the optional RPT-797 Wood Base, crafted from a single piece of high-density wood with exceptional vibration-damping properties. Impregnated with a special antistatic oil, the base isolates the terminal from ground resonances and static charges, further enhancing sound quality. The result is a calmer, smoother sound with greater clarity, improved instrument separation, and a more natural acoustic ambiance.

Why the Extrema Power Terminal Stands Out

The KBL Sound Extrema Power Terminal is not just a power distributor—it’s a cornerstone for high-end audio systems. Its meticulous engineering, premium materials, and innovative design deliver a level of power purity that enhances every aspect of sound reproduction. By prioritizing clean, unfiltered power delivery, the Extrema outperforms many traditional conditioners, offering audiophiles a transformative upgrade that brings their music closer to perfection.

Marco Lisi is the publisher of Best of High End, part of AV Concepts BV. His path into audio started early: as a teenager he was drawn into the world of free radio, presenting shows and living immersed in music every day. In his early twenties he ran his own production studio for five years, creating jingles and commercials — hands-on training in sound design, pro-audio workflows, and critical listening through studio monitors that still shapes how he evaluates gear today. He also spent years DJing in clubs before moving into publishing, first at two earlier online magazines before founding Best of High End. His hi-fi and home cinema passion was inherited from his father, an inveterate system-swapper. Marco's first setup — a confirmation gift — paired AKAI separates with entry-level Bowers & Wilkins speakers, a brand he stayed loyal to for years as his system grew from stereo into full surround and home cinema. Like many enthusiasts, he went through an extended "audiophile" phase chasing the next upgrade, before settling into a more grounded view: gear as a means to enjoy music and film, not an end in itself. Years of critical listening have given him a well-trained ear — the ability to characterize a system or pinpoint a change in the chain quickly and accurately. Just as important, his teaching background (a Belgian "regent" degree in Dutch language) gives him the tools to translate those listening impressions into clear, readable writing.
