Samsung has announced that the Digital Key is now available for selected cars from Volvo Cars and Polestar. This means that users of Samsung Galaxy smartphones can easily access their vehicles directly from their smartphones. Using the Samsung Wallet, drivers can unlock, lock, and start their cars all without the need for a physical key.

“The expansion of Samsung’s Digital Key is a significant part of our commitment to providing a connected, secure experience within the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem,” said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics. Chai emphasized that collaboration with automakers such as Volvo Cars and Polestar is a crucial step in simplifying everyday activities, like driving, for all Samsung Galaxy users worldwide.
Innovative Technology for Convenience and Security
The Digital Key is integrated into all Samsung Galaxy devices, enabling users to operate their paired vehicle in various ways. This includes Ultra-wideband (UWB) for hands-free access, Near Field Communication (NFC) for starting and unlocking the car, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) via the Samsung Wallet. Users also have the ability to share Digital Keys with friends and family who use OEM-compatible devices, with the option to manage access rights as desired.
Top Security Standards
The Samsung Digital Key meets EAL6+ certification, the highest security level for smart devices. This ensures protection against unauthorized access through secure integration within the device. The UWB technology, a standardized communication protocol from the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), reduces the risk of unauthorized access with precise and reliable features. If a device with a Digital Key is stolen, users can easily block or remotely remove their Digital Key via Samsung Find. Biometric and PIN-based authentication ensure that all interactions are well protected.
Samsung Wallet: A Secure Solution
Launched in June 2022, Samsung Wallet is a versatile platform that allows users to store their Digital Keys, payment methods, and ID cards within one secure application. The wallet is protected by Samsung Knox security systems, which are fully integrated into the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem. This provides seamless connectivity and enhanced security for users in their daily lives.
Availability of the Digital Key Feature
The integration of the Samsung Digital Key for selected vehicles from Volvo Cars begins this month in Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia. For selected Polestar vehicles, integration will also start this month in Europe, North America, and Asia. As a result, an increasing number of Samsung Galaxy users can benefit from this innovative and secure solution for their driving experience.
