Sharp is broadening its professional cinema lineup with a new generation of flexible, energy-efficient 2K and 4K laser projectors designed to meet the diverse needs of modern movie theaters. Unveiled at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas (April 13–16), the expanded range includes powerful high-brightness 4K models and what the company claims is the quietest digital cinema projector currently available on the market. The new projectors allow cinemas to tailor each auditorium more precisely to audience size, content type, and operational requirements.
The launch builds directly on the successful integration of Sharp and NEC display technologies. Existing customer teams in Japan and Europe remain fully involved in product development, support, and service, ensuring continuity and long-term reliability for both legacy and new installations. Sharp emphasizes continued availability of spare parts and dedicated technical support for all customers.
The introduction of these new 2K and 4K projectors gives cinemas greater choice in performance and form factor, allowing them to align their auditoriums with their specific audience and operational context, said Ronald Huijbregts, Sales Director Benelux at Sharp Display Solutions. With quieter and more compact models, we’re addressing venues where acoustic comfort and installation flexibility are priorities. At the same time, the modular 4K series offers scalable solutions for larger cinema complexes.
New Projector Highlights
- Compact Sharp 2K Cinema Projector A new 12,000-lumen 2K model optimized for smaller halls and alternative cinema setups. It becomes available starting April 2026.
- Ultra-Compact and Ultra-Quiet Sharp 2K Projector Designed specifically for intimate venues and noise-sensitive environments, this model is positioned to be the quietest digital cinema projector on the market. It will be available soon.
- Modular Sharp 4K Laser Projector Series Three high-performance models with light outputs of 14,000, 20,000, and 24,000 lumens, scheduled for release in autumn 2026. The modular design allows easy adaptation to a wide range of screen sizes and theater configurations.
All new projectors feature Sharp’s Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) technology, which delivers deeper black levels while improving energy efficiency and extending the lifespan of the laser light source. EDR will also be made available free of charge via a firmware update for existing NEC laser projectors already in the field.
Every Sharp cinema projector now carries a standard three-year warranty, reinforcing the company’s commitment to long-term reliability and customer peace of mind.
Practical Solutions for Today’s Cinemas
The expanded portfolio addresses the evolving demands of both small boutique theaters and large multiplexes. The combination of compact footprints, low noise levels, and scalable brightness options gives operators greater freedom to optimize each auditorium without compromising on picture quality or running costs.
With these new models, Sharp continues to strengthen its position in the professional cinema market by offering practical, future-ready projection solutions that prioritize performance, flexibility, and operational efficiency.
