Audio-Technica has introduced the AT-LP7X, a fully manual belt-drive turntable that builds on the legacy of its acclaimed 2019 predecessor, the AT-LP7, while incorporating thoughtful upgrades for enhanced performance and customization. Unveiled at CES 2026 in Las Vegas and now available worldwide, the matte-black model targets vinyl enthusiasts who prioritize clean, precise analog playback with room for experimentation.
The AT-LP7X features a heavy, resonance-damping 40 mm MDF plinth paired with a 20 mm-thick high-density acrylic platter, which provides substantial rotational inertia for stable speed without requiring a separate mat. A DC servo motor with an optical speed-sensor system maintains accurate rotation at 33-1/3 and 45 RPM, while vibration-isolating spring-based feet and an external power supply further minimize mechanical and electrical noise. Wow and flutter are rated below 0.1% (WTD at 3 kHz), and the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 60 dB.
Balanced J-shaped tonearm
At the heart of the design is a static-balanced J-shaped aluminum tonearm—drawing inspiration from Audio-Technica’s classic models of the 1960s and 1970s—with a dual-axis gimbal, precision ball bearings, adjustable vertical tracking angle (VTA), and anti-skate control. The effective length is 247 mm, with an overhang of 15 mm and maximum tracking error under 2.0°. It ships pre-mounted with the AT-LT10 lightweight removable headshell and the AT-VM95E BK (black) moving magnet cartridge, featuring a 0.3 × 0.7 mil bonded elliptical stylus for excellent channel separation and low distortion.
Cartridge compatibility
A key highlight is the expanded cartridge compatibility: the included 16 g subcounterweight supports combined cartridge/headshell weights from 14.0 to 23.5 g, while an optional heavier 32 g subcounterweight (sold separately) extends the range up to 28.5 g. This makes the AT-LP7X particularly appealing for users interested in swapping styli across the versatile VM95 Series or experimenting with other cartridges.
Built-in switchable phono preamplifier
The turntable includes a built-in, switchable phono preamplifier that supports both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges, with selectable phono/line outputs for direct connection to powered speakers, amplifiers, or external phono stages. Additional accessories include a dust cover, drive belt, 45 RPM adapter, RCA audio cable, AC adapter, and gloves.
Measuring 450 × 352 × 157 mm (W×D×H) and weighing approximately 7.6 kg (17 lbs), the AT-LP7X combines minimalist aesthetics with high-end engineering. It retails for $999 USD (approximately £679 / €799), positioning it as a premium yet accessible option in Audio-Technica’s lineup, between models like the AT-LP5X and the higher-end AT-LP8X or AT-LPA2.
“Blending analog excellence with style and versatility,” Audio-Technica describes the AT-LP7X as ideal for those who value precision, timeless design, and the flexibility to fine-tune their setup for optimal sound reproduction.
