Klipsch, the pioneering American audio brand founded by Paul W. Klipsch in 1946, has officially launched the ProMedia Lumina – a bold reimagining of its iconic ProMedia 2.1 computer speaker system that first revolutionized desktop audio back in 1999. After 26 years, this new iteration honors the original’s THX-certified legacy of explosive dynamics and horn-loaded efficiency while adding contemporary features tailored for gamers, content creators, remote workers, and everyday music enthusiasts.

Desktop double

The ProMedia Lumina arrives at a time when high-quality nearfield audio is more essential than ever, as desktops double as gaming rigs, editing suites, and entertainment hubs. With its wider MicroTractrix horn design, low-noise amplification, and a host of smart controls, Klipsch positions the Lumina as the ultimate blend of heritage performance and 2025-ready versatility – all without breaking the bank.

Signature horn-loaded technology

At the core of each satellite speaker is Klipsch’s signature horn-loaded technology: a 1-inch Mylar soft-dome tweeter loaded into an evolved, wider MicroTractrix horn for enhanced dispersion and razor-sharp clarity, paired with a robust 3-inch midrange driver in a sealed ABS cabinet. This combination delivers the brand’s trademark lively, low-distortion sound with precise imaging and controlled directivity – perfect for immersive gaming or critical listening in compact spaces.

Upright subwoofer

Complementing the satellites is a slim, upright subwoofer featuring a 6.5-inch side-firing long-throw woofer in a ported MDF enclosure. Engineered for tight desks and corners, it punches well below its footprint, extending down to a claimed 40 Hz with adjustable gain for room-shaking bass that retains tightness and impact. Total system power comes from upgraded low-noise amplifiers, ensuring clean, dynamic output even at high volumes.

Modern featureset

What truly sets the Lumina apart from its predecessors is its modern feature set. Connectivity is comprehensive: Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless streaming, USB-C and 3.5 mm AUX inputs for direct computer hookup, plus a convenient 3.5 mm headphone passthrough. The system powers on/off automatically with your PC, and tactile controls handle volume and basic functions.

Klipsch Control app

For deeper customization, the free Klipsch Control app (available on mobile and, for the first time, as a dedicated Windows desktop version) unlocks a six-band EQ, preset Music and Movie modes, Virtual Surround for enhanced spatial gaming, and Night Mode to tame bass during late hours. Windows 11 users gain exclusive extras like Screen React (LEDs sample and mirror on-screen colors) and Dynamic Lighting sync with other RGB peripherals.

Lumina

Speaking of lighting – the “Lumina” name is no coincidence. Each satellite houses six diffused LEDs on the rear, offering five ambient Light Modes, color-changing options, music-reactive pulsing, and app-based personalization. The result? A subtle, immersive glow that elevates any battlestation without the garish overkill of typical gaming gear.

Aesthetically, the ProMedia Lumina sheds the dated plastic look of early 2000s PC speakers for a sophisticated carbon wood-grain vinyl finish, tiltable stands for optimal aiming, and integrated cable management. It’s a system that looks as premium as it sounds – a far cry from generic multimedia boxes.

As Vincent Bonacorsi, Klipsch COO, puts it: We set out to honor the unmistakable power and precision that made the original ProMedia iconic, while evolving it for how people experience audio today. The ProMedia Lumina proves that true high-performance sound belongs everywhere – even on your desk.

In an era dominated by soundbars and wireless earbuds, the Klipsch ProMedia Lumina is a refreshing reminder that dedicated, powered desktop speakers can still deliver thrilling, high-end results. For anyone seeking that live-concert energy in a compact package, this luminous revival is ready to light up your setup.
