Sonos has officially launched the Amp Multi, a groundbreaking 8-channel streaming amplifier designed specifically for professional integrators and complex residential audio systems. Announced on January 27, this new flagship device marks Sonos’ most advanced amplifier to date, delivering unparalleled flexibility, power, and audio fidelity for multi-zone setups in luxury homes.
Building on the success of the original Sonos Amp, the Amp Multi quadruples the channel count while introducing cutting-edge technologies to streamline installation and optimize performance. With eight amplified outputs each rated at 125 watts (into 8 ohms, all channels driven), the Amp Multi supports up to four independent zones, making it ideal for whole-home audio distribution without compromising on sound quality.
Gallium Nitride transistor technology
At the heart of the Amp Multi is Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistor technology combined with post-filter feedback (PFFB) in a Class D topology. This combination ensures exceptional efficiency, minimal heat generation, and superior audio clarity – with total harmonic distortion as low as 0.005%, a signal-to-noise ratio of 114 dB, and frequency response flat within ±0.5 dB from 15 Hz to 20 kHz. The fanless, thermally optimized chassis further enhances reliability, allowing silent operation even in demanding environments.
Installer-focused features
Professional installers will appreciate the device’s installer-focused features. ProTune provides manual tuning capabilities for each output, including a 10-band parametric EQ, adjustable gain (±15 dB to +5 dB), delay offsets (up to 50 ms), and high-pass filters. The Amp Multi automatically detects and optimizes connected Sonos Architectural in-ceiling speakers, supporting up to three per channel (24 total) with custom DSP profiles for consistent volume limiting and even frequency response.
Configuration is intuitive via the Sonos app, with audible tones for unit identification, real-time LED feedback, and ambient light sensors for discreet status indication. Connectivity options include WiFi 6, Ethernet, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, analog line-in, and USB-C inputs, plus assignable subwoofer outputs. Up to four audio sources can stream simultaneously across zones.
Designed for rack integration, the Amp Multi occupies just 2U of space with improved airflow and cable management. It can also be shelf-placed or wall-mounted, featuring a refined finish and construction using 47% post-consumer recycled plastic. Energy efficiency is a highlight, drawing less than 5.5 watts in standby.
With Amp Multi, we’re giving professionals the tools to create dynamic, future-proof audio experiences that evolve with homeowners’ needs, Sonos stated in its announcement. The device enables on-the-fly zone reconfiguration, allowing outputs to be freely assigned to different rooms or combined for greater power.
Pricing and availability
Pricing has not yet been disclosed – interested integrators are directed to request a quote through Sonos Pro channels. Availability is expected in the coming months, with a global rollout planned. Sonos will showcase the Amp Multi at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2026 in Barcelona from February 3–6.
For high-end enthusiasts and custom installers seeking a seamless blend of Sonos’ ecosystem reliability with pro-grade multi-zone performance, the Amp Multi sets a new benchmark in distributed audio amplification. This launch signals Sonos’ renewed commitment to the professional channel following a period of app-focused developments, and it promises to elevate multi-room systems to true audiophile standards.
