Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy XR, a groundbreaking headset that ushers in a new era of AI-native devices. Built on the open, scalable Android XR platform a collaboration between Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm Technologies this marks the launch of an ecosystem with multimodal AI at its core. Priced at $1,800 (approximately €1,650), the Galaxy XR positions itself as a serious rival to Apple’s Vision Pro, but more affordable and optimized for everyday use.
The Galaxy XR isn’t just a headset; it’s the first step in Samsung’s long-term XR vision, with plans for multiple form factors including AI glasses in the near future. “With Galaxy XR, Samsung introduces an entirely new ecosystem of mobile devices,” says Won-Joon Choi, COO of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Built on Android XR, Galaxy XR extends the vision for mobile AI into new immersive and meaningful experiences, turning XR from concept into everyday reality for both industry and users.”
Revealed at the ‘Worlds Wide Open’ event on October 21, 2025, the Galaxy XR promises natural interactions via voice, vision, and gestures, letting users experience their favorite Android apps in a whole new dimension right out of the box.
Immersive Design: Lightweight and Comfortable for All-Day Wear
The Galaxy XR strikes an optimal balance between robustness and wearability, weighing just 545 grams with a lightweight construction ideal for daily use. Whether working, exploring virtual worlds, or gaming, the headset delivers prolonged immersive experiences without fatigue. Featuring 4K micro-OLED displays per eye and a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, it delivers razor-sharp visuals and seamless performance.
Multimodal AI at the Core: Natural Interactions with Gemini
The Galaxy XR’s power lies in its system-level integration of Google’s Gemini AI, transforming it into an intuitive AI companion. Rather than executing commands, the headset understands your environment by seeing and hearing what you do. Interact naturally through voice, gestures, or images like conversing with a human.
“Android XR is the first Android platform fully built for the Gemini era,” emphasizes Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google. “Through our collaboration with Samsung, Android XR will unlock entirely new ways to explore, connect, and create via one open platform for the next evolution in computing.”
Alex Katouzian, Group GM of Mobile, Compute & XR at Qualcomm Technologies, adds: “Galaxy XR represents our vision of the future, where AI and XR synergy unlocks entirely new possibilities for personal computing.”
Open Collaboration Builds a Scalable Android XR Ecosystem
As part of a long-term XR strategy, Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm have created a new ecosystem that opens opportunities for the industry. Android XR places AI at the center, scaling across form factors from headsets to AI glasses and beyond. Galaxy XR leverages this open ecosystem: All Android apps work instantly, while OpenXR, WebXR, and Unity standards make it easy for developers to port experiences delivering rich content from entertainment to enterprise applications in gaming, education, and healthcare.
Samsung’s roadmap includes partnerships with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster for smart glasses, making XR even more accessible.
