McIntosh has introduced the CR106 2-Channel 6-Zone Preamplifier and Audio Matrix, a groundbreaking addition to its lineup of high-end audio solutions. Designed for customized installations and whole-home audio systems, this innovative preamplifier brings McIntosh’s signature fidelity to every corner of the house with seamless multi-zone control.
Connectivity and control
The CR106 integrates analog and digital inputs, offering four analog and four digital inputs for versatile connectivity. Its six zones feature dual unbalanced outputs and dedicated subwoofer outs, allowing independent audio customization for each area. Control is effortlessly managed through the McIntosh Connect app (available for iOS and Android), a web interface, or the unit’s intuitive front-panel controls. Users can assign sources, group zones, adjust subwoofer settings, and save presets under the “Experiences” feature for quick recall.
Centralized audio solution
Built-in Bluetooth streaming supports AAC, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive, while power management triggers sync with other McIntosh components for coordinated operation. The compact 2U rack-mountable design, complete with included brackets, ensures easy integration into standard A/V setups. For discreet installations, McIntosh recommends pairing the CR106 with in-wall or in-ceiling speakers, with an optional MIP200 Power Controller adding electrical protection.
The CR106 will be available starting August 2025 through authorized McIntosh dealers, priced at $5,500 USD, $8,800 CAD, €7,499 EUR, or £6,999 GBP. This preamplifier promises to deliver exceptional sound quality and flexibility, making it a must-have for audiophiles seeking a centralized audio solution.
