As OpenAI’s strategic memory partner, Samsung Electronics will provide advanced semiconductor solutions to support OpenAI’s ambitious Stargate initiative. With OpenAI’s memory demand projected to reach 900,000 DRAM wafers per month, Samsung is poised to meet this need with its high-performance, energy-efficient DRAM solutions. As a total semiconductor solutions provider, Samsung offers industry-leading technologies in memory, logic, and foundry services, covering the entire AI workflow from training to inference.

Samsung SDS: Building and Supporting AI Datacenters
Samsung SDS and OpenAI have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the design, development, and operation of AI datacenters for the Stargate initiative. Leveraging its expertise in advanced datacenter technologies, Samsung SDS will provide consulting, implementation, and managed services to enterprises seeking to integrate OpenAI’s AI models into their systems.
Additionally, Samsung SDS has entered a reseller partnership to distribute OpenAI’s services in Korea, with plans to support local businesses in adopting ChatGPT Enterprise offerings, further expanding the reach of OpenAI’s AI solutions.
Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries
In a groundbreaking move, Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries will collaborate with OpenAI to develop floating datacenters, a transformative approach to datacenter infrastructure. Floating datacenters offer significant advantages over traditional land-based facilities, including reduced land use, lower cooling costs, and decreased CO2 emissions. Despite their technical complexity, Samsung’s expertise in shipbuilding and maritime technologies makes this innovation feasible.
Beyond floating datacenters, Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries will explore opportunities in floating power plants and control centers, further expanding the scope of this collaboration.
