R_volution, a leading innovator in high-performance media players, has announced the release of firmware version 250729 for its Amlogic-based devices, including the PlayerMini, PlayerOne 8K, and PlayerPro 8K. The update, now available for direct installation from the players, introduces a range of new features, performance improvements, and critical fixes to enhance the user experience.
Significant enhancements
The new firmware brings significant enhancements for audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts. Users can now toggle AIPQ and AISR modes during playback with a long press of keys 5 and 6, offering greater control over video processing. Additionally, a new Picture Settings menu allows adjustments to brightness, contrast, and saturation during playback, although this feature is not available for Dolby Vision and Dolby VS10 content due to Dolby’s restrictions. The update also adds file size display in the INFO panel during playback, including for ISO files, and introduces support for Unicode (UTF-16 LE and BE) subtitle encodings along with a new Condensed subtitle style.
Upgrade for the R_volution RF Remote Control
A notable upgrade is included for the R_volution RF Remote Control, which receives its own firmware update (version 02.01.20) as part of the player firmware. This update enables users to customize the remote’s backlight timeout to 3, 5, or 7 seconds using key combinations (SET+7, SET+8, or SET+9), with the default now set to 5 seconds for improved usability.
Addressing several user-reported issues
The firmware addresses several user-reported issues, including a fix for compatibility with RTI and Control4 control systems, which was problematic in the previous version (250724). Other fixes include improved auto-pairing for the RF remote when triggered manually, resolution of a black screen issue after exiting the screensaver during AV1 video playback, and corrections for errors in the SMB browser and text input via USB or Bluetooth keyboards. The update also resolves a rewinding issue in certain HLS IPTV streams used in plugins.
Performance improvements
Performance improvements include disabling non-R_volution IR codes (except those with code 4040) to reduce interference, disabling the screensaver during video playback from the R_video application to prevent display issues, and updated UI translations for a more polished interface. Additional minor fixes and internal optimizations further enhance system stability.
R_volution advises users that the update process may take up to 10 minutes, with a black screen appearing for approximately 6 minutes during installation. Users are encouraged to install the update directly from their players to experience the full range of improvements.
