If we would give a weekly price for originality this would be a big contender. These headphones, like we have come to expect from Grado look stylish. Although their wooden components make them more of an acquired taste then more conventional looking counterparts, we have to say Grado’s craftmanship is always of the highest tier. Like their other products these are hand assembled in their Brooklyn workshops.
The brawn to match the beauty
We don’t just expect beauty from the New York based brand though, we also know them for their great sound. And the wooden components are more then just a fashion statement. Pulling everything they can from the new 50mm X Driver, their signature sound is brought to new heights when combined with maple, hemp, and cocobolo. Maple takes care of most of the work, hemp smooths out top and low ends, while cocobolo adds that extra punch. Together the sound the woods produce, when combined with special processes, are full-bodied, dynamic, and truly defined.
A first for Grado
The RS1x is the first headphone to be built with the larger 50mm X Drivers. Specifically tuned for the tri-wood RS1x, this new speaker design features a more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with decreased effective mass, and a reconfigured diaphragm. Reengineering these components for our 50mm drivers improve efficiency, reduces distortion, and preserves the harmonic integrity of your music. Grado manage to impress us once again.
